Terms of Service

OBOB.dog is a free tool for kids practicing for the Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB). It includes:

• Practice battles and games built from OBOB-style questions
• A directory of this year's OBOB books
• The Dog Eared Book Club: accounts where kids track their reading, parents follow along, teams see what everyone is reading, and battles stick to the books a kid has actually read
• A way for kids and parents to write practice questions for everyone
• A daily collaborative crossword

It's free, it's for learning, and it's an independent project: we aren't run by the official Oregon Battle of the Books program.

• Adults create accounts. You must be 18 or older, and the parent or legal guardian of any reader you add. Kids can't create accounts themselves.
• You're responsible for your readers. That includes the display names you choose for them and how they use the site. Pick a nickname or first name; don't use another person's name.
• Keep login codes private. A reader's code is their key. If it gets out, replace it from your dashboard and the old one stops working.
• Teams are run by parents. The parent who starts a team is its coach: they get a team code to share, and can rename the team, remove readers, or delete it. A reader joins only when their own parent enters that team code, so nobody can add a kid to a team but their parent.
• We can close accounts that break these terms or that we reasonably believe were created by someone other than a parent or guardian.

How we handle your family's information is in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

Club members can write practice questions, and coaches name their teams. When you contribute:

• Your questions become part of OBOB.dog. By submitting a question, you let OBOB.dog use it in battles, games, and anywhere else on the site, and edit it as needed, for as long as the site exists. It's still yours to use however you like.
• A reviewer checks it first. Questions don't appear in battles until a reviewer approves them, and we may edit them for accuracy or clarity, or reject them.
• Keep it about the book. Don't copy long passages from a book, and don't include personal information about anyone, including yourself.
• Team names should be fun and appropriate for kids. We may rename or remove a team that isn't.

When you use OBOB.dog, you agree to:

• Use it for what it's for: practicing for OBOB
• Treat other people with respect, in team names, questions, and voice chat
• Not try to break, overload, or sneak into any part of the site
• Not submit false, misleading, or inappropriate content
• Not use the site to collect information about other people, especially kids

We can remove content or restrict access for anyone who doesn't.

OBOB.dog is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We don't promise that:

• The site will always be up or free of bugs
• Every question is accurate, complete, or current
• Reading progress or other club data will never be lost
• The site will meet your particular needs

Questions are written by volunteers and may contain mistakes. Check answers against the book and your official OBOB materials.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Doing Systems, LLC and its operators aren't liable for any:

• Indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
• Loss of profits, data, or other intangible losses
• Damages resulting from your use of, or inability to use, the site
• Damages resulting from incorrect or outdated question content
• Damages resulting from any third-party content or conduct

Because this is a free service, the maximum liability of Doing Systems, LLC for any claim is $0.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Doing Systems, LLC and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the site, content you contribute, or a violation of these terms.

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. Using the site after that means you accept the new terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
