New season, new dog
OBOB season is here and OBOB.dog is back! We've got all the new books loaded for Elementary, Middle and High School and some fun new stuff in store.
Also this dog.
Meet Rosie. Fearless, curious, loyal, easily distracted by sticks. She takes books seriously and almost nothing else (well, except sticks). Rosie leads readers through strange worlds, big feelings and whatever is hiding in Chapter Seven.
Rosie is the real dog of the stewards of this site, and she was illustrated, along with the whole new look of OBOB.dog, by our good friend Tomi. You'll find Rosie rolling around all over the place here, so keep an eye out.
For those of you who are new to OBOB.dog, our mission is to help every kid fall in love with reading by having fun with the Oregon Battle of the Books.
We help kids explore the books and authors through a variety of games and battles. Here's a quick overview...
Battles
OBOB is the Oregon BATTLE of the Books after all, so core to the site is the ability to practice battle questions about the books. Solo battles are for practicing on your own, Friend battles are for practicing with someone else (like a parent or pal), and Mock battles are for moderators who want to simulate a real-ish battle between two teams. All the battles follow the standard OBOB battle format with in-which-book and content style questions.
Games
Our games help kids explore OBOB books and authors in other creative ways. Cover Glitch and Author Match are all about building the connection between the title and author, and Zoomies is a rapid fire in-which-book game. The daily crossword is a collab between you and your team to solve the puzzle together.
Dog Eared Book Club
New this year we have the Dog Eared Book Club. Rosie is really excited about this one, and at its heart the club provides a way to save your reading across books and share with your team. It is optional, of course, but if you create an account and save your progress the battles and games will use that info to show you questions only on the progress you've made so far. So you won't get a question about the end of the book if you're only halfway through.
You can also make a custom bookmark which you use to sign in to the site.
The OBOB coach can create a team and add the kids to it, so everyone can see who is reading what and share progress together. Teams unlock some other really cool features, which you'll have to discover on your own in the coming months ;)

Printables
Also new this year is the Analog Dog: a bunch of resources that you can print out to practice OBOB stuff away from screens. You can print battles, flashcards, team book assignment worksheets and Author Match games. Go ahead and practice some OBOB while touching (or rolling in) grass in the park.
Contribute questions!
OBOB.dog gets better for every kid in Oregon with every new question, and you can contribute. Write questions for the site, or become a question reviewer to help improve the quality of the questions and fix errors (IYKYK).
